MEN, women and children in Chapel of Garioch are donning their aprons and getting out their baking trays ready for the Great Chapel Cake Off, which takes place this Saturday, March 23, at the Village Hall.
Aspiring bakers and confectioners are invited to enter their specialities into any or all of six categories, and everyone can have a chance of sampling them, all in aid of Comic Relief.
Event organiser, Anne MacEwen said, “This is a fun event to raise money for Red Nose Day, but we still expect competition to be fierce! The rules are very simple, all entries should be big enough for six portions, no fresh cream or cream cheese is allowed, please say if nuts (or horse!) is an ingredient, and it costs a pound to put in an entry. Primary school children can enter a free competition for the best decorated cup cake.”
Entries should be dropped off at Chapel of Garioch Village Hall between 11.30am and midday on March 23. The categories are “Red Nose Cake”; “Victoria Sponge”; “Tray Bake”; “Scottish Themed Bake”; “Cookies / Biscuits and Bread”. A skilled team from the SWRI will be judging each category on appearance and taste.
Anne continued, “Everyone loves a good home bake, either to make or eat so this was our answer to the challenge to do something funny for money.
“The Village Hall will be open from 2 till 4pm and it is only £2 to have tea and cakes and see the final judging of the Cake Off. There will be other fun events such as a tombola and quizzes going on as well during the afternoon. I hope lots of people will take up this chance to eat cake for charity!”
