A Fraserburgh and District councillor has visited Kiddiwinks Nursery to congratulate staff and children on their recent inspection report.

Councillor Charles Buchan paid a visit to the nursery earlier this week and offered his best wishes to the pre-school centre for their glowing 2013 report from SCSWIS and Education Scotland.

Amongst other areas, the inspectors praised the nursery’s high quality learning experiences; the involvement and support of parents; the commitment of all staff; and the leadership of the manager in securing continued improvement of the nursery.

Kiddiwinks was inspected for four days at the end of October last year.

Commenting, Councillor Charles Buchan said: “I was delighted to see how good the recent Education Scotland inspection results are for our private nurseries.

“As a member of the Aberdeenshire Council Education, Learning, and Leisure Committee, I do know there is sometimes a tendency to focus on the Council provision for the under 5’s.

“Yet the commercial provision is also very important, both economically and educationally for Fraserburgh and District, allowing parents to undertake employment, and helping our children in the all-important early years to learn communication skills, and prepare them for school.

“In last week’s edition, the Fraserburgh Herald featured the success of Peek-A-Boo nursery. We have just heard that Kiddywinks (Robertson Road) under the direction of Ann Milne has been placed in the “Very Good” category, and PlayBarn, of Saltoun Place, is awaiting the results of their inspection, and are hoping for an excellent report, similar to their last one. I would also like to extend my best wishes to Happy Days Nursery and Busy B’s Nursery.

“However, as a consequence of success, most nurseries often don’t have available spaces, and any increase in available places would be welcomed.

“Well done to all the staff and pupils.”

Anne Milne commented: “For our local councillor to turn up and congratulate us was special for staff, children and parents.

“To receive grades of excellent and very good for 2013 from SCSWIS and Education Scotland was an honour.”
