Couple donate £20,000 to ITU

A KINTORE couple, Chris and Maggie Reid have presented a cheque for £20,000 to the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A further £20,00, raised by Chris and Maggie at the same, single, fundraising dinner is destined for the Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) Support Group.

Maggie, who is a procurement specialist, explained: “We wanted to do something positive and commemorate Craig and Russell Milne − we knew the brothers from school and they became good friends of ours over the years.

“Sadly, in 2005, Russell was in a fatal road accident, then, in 2010, Craig was rushed to ARI with what seemed to be a viral infection, but shortly after he fell into a coma, was diagnosed with GBS, and died within a month, aged only 31. Both received great care from the teams at the Intensive Therapy Unit.”

Project engineer Chris added: “We just wanted to thank the ITU teams who worked so hard to look after the brothers.

“My wife Maggie and I spent nearly five months planning the fundraising dinner at Dyce. The success of the evening would not have been possible without the sponsorship and support we received from R&M Engineering and Wood Group PSN.

“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of family, friends, work colleagues and companies who attended the dinner, we can’t thank them enough as they all helped to create a fantastic atmosphere. One of the highlights for us was the auction, as it exceeded our expectations.”
