Fetternear finds to go on display
AN Exhibition of some of the glass finds from the Fetternear Dig will be held at Blairs Museum during the summer months, opening on Monday, April 1.
The exhibition will focus in particular on the Fetternear window glass as well as artefacts from the museum’s own collections, and is entitled “Light Devine: Church and Chapel Windows at Fetternear, Aberdeenshire, from Medieval Times to the Nineteenth Century”.
The official opening times are: (April to October) Saturday, Sundays and Local Holiday Mondays 2-5pm, and on other occasions by arrangement. Visit the museum website www.blairsmuseum.com for further details.
A short session of fieldwork from April 12 to 20, is also being organised to explore the ancient Chapel site at St Ninian’s on the bank of the River Don (about one mile from the site of the Bishop’s Palace). Depending on weather, there will be a small excavation and survey of the remains of the Chapel, along with fieldwalking in appropriate locations. Anyone wishing to volunteer can do so by contacting Dr Penny Dransart, University of Wales, on e-mail p.dransart@tsd.ac.uk or Jonty Trigg, University of Liverpool, on e-mail jrtrigg@liverpool.ac.uk.
