Inverurie Academy’s award winning Young Enterprise team “Branching Out” scooped another four awards at the Scottish Young Enterprise finals at Glasgow’s Thistle Hotel on Wednesday (June 18).
After fighting off stiff competition from thousands of senior school pupils across the country, winning teams from 14 regions throughout Scotland battled it out for a host of business awards at the finals.
Branching Out from Inverurie Academy were amongst the finalists having won their regional final with their unique and individually hand crafted, eco-friendly and upcycled wooden products.
The evening went very well for the team of nine when they won Best Trade Stand 2014 (sponsored by the Thistle Glasgow), the Asda Retail Excellence Award 2014, and the Best Report 2014 (sponsored by the Weir Group). Their Managing Director, Penny Leake was also recognised as she was one of the joint winners of the Institute of Directors Scotland’s Young Director of the Year Award 2014.
Celebrating their success, 17 year old Managing Director Penny Leake said, “We had a brilliant day and are so pleased with the number of awards we won, it’s twice the number any teams our teacher’s worked with before have ever won. This year we have learned how to work as a team together under pressure, and the importance of financial incentives.”
Their Business Adviser Evelyn Morrice said, “I have enjoyed seeing the progress of the team especially as they learned about themselves, working in a team, how a business works and the rewards of hard work. I’m very proud of Branching Out for winning the Grampian finals.”
Currently in their 19th year, the Young Enterprise Scotland Awards celebrate the success of its Company Programme, which is designed to inspire young people to try out their business ideas.
