Golden girl Hannah Miley returned to her home town this week

Inverurie is buzzing after the swimming star’s Commonwealth Games success and on Tuesday she got a taste of the pride of the local community.

This Saturday local people will have the chance to show their appreciation of the achievements of Hannah and other North-east Games competitors at a parade through the town.

When she arrived home Hannah, who’s stunning performances in Glasgow enthralled local people and the rest of the country, dropped in on some Inverurie4u members who have shown their support by decorating windows.

A town centre landmark Mooorial, the Mitchells cow, has also had a golden make-over in her honour.

The 24-year-old Garioch Amateur Swimming Club member was “absolutely thrilled” to hear of the response.

She said: “To be honest, it’s not really sunk in yet. The last two weeks have been amazing and I’m still coming to terms with what I have achieved.

“The Games were special and I have never experienced noise quite like that at the Tollcross pool. London 2012 was loud but Glasgow was incredible.”

Mitchell’s partner Judy Whyte said: “We felt the need to mark Hannah’s success and the suggestion of painting the cow was one we took on board right away with the help of local companies. Businesses have been encouraged to get their window displays turned gold - it’s certainly been a talking point in the town.”

Fellow Inverurie4u member, Ashley Wilson, added: “We love that in interviews Hannah always mentions the support of her family and gives a shout out to her home town of Inverurie.

“Hannah is well known locally as she trains with Garioch Amateur Swimming Club in Inverurie swimming pool and at Garioch Sports Trust which is also an I4u member.”

Saturday’s Welcome Home parade will start at 1.30pm at Garioch Sports Centre and make its way to Inverurie town square and organisers are expecting a huge turn-out.
