Sports clubs in the Garioch Area have joined together in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, Sportscotland, Garioch Sports Trust and Aberdeenshire Sports Council, to create and develop the Garioch Community Sports Hub (GCSH).
This has been created to support and promote the sports clubs in the Garioch area. GCSH represents 24 local clubs from a wide of range of sports including swimming, bowls, gymnastics, judo, cricket, hockey, kettlebell, running, football, rugby, modern pentathlon and squash.
Developing Sports Hubs is a national initiative and they exist all over Scotland. All community sport hubs have their own action plans but the common thread is that each works to the following five principles: growth in participation, engaging the local community, promoting community leadership, offering a range of sporting opportunities and bringing all appropriate partners/groups together.
The Garioch Sports Centre have agreed to provide room and meeting space to the GCSH and the inaugural AGM was held there on Monday (August 18). The Chair is Trevor Hart, Vice–Chair Kieran Buxton, Treasurer Ron Fleming and Secretary Eric Simpson with committee members Trish Swan, Kate Drever, Jane McIntosh, Graeme Mackie and Kevin Bonarius.
There will also be up to three Young Ambassadors to join the committee reflecting the importance of reaching out to young people, children and their families. These will be identified in discussion with the local academies and Inverurie Academy have already expressed their interest in being involved in the hub.
Trevor Hart Chair of GCSH believes that Garioch area is already a vibrant sporting area and sees it as the responsibility of the GSCH to support the clubs promoting their interests and sport within the local community.
