BT have announced that high-speed fibre broadband is now available to the first homes and businesses in Inverurie.
And the news has been welcomed by First Minister and Gordon MSP Alex Salmond, who has described it as great news for the town.
BT say that around 1,900 homes and businesses in the Aberdeenshire town now have access to the high-speed technology – and this figure will increase to more than 4,380 as engineers complete the local upgrade in the weeks ahead.
Mr Salmond said: “As local MSP, I’m delighted that fibre broadband has reached Inverurie – it will be a welcome boost to residents and businesses alike.
“Inverurie continues to grow and flourish, and people will find the town a much more viable option with improved connectivity.
“I look forward to BT’s roll-out of fibre broadband across Aberdeenshire East in the near future, with Turriff and Ellon next in line to benefit.
“The Scottish Government is working closely with commercial partners and local authorities across the country to ensure that the whole of Scotland can participate in the digital world and becomes an even more attractive opportunity for inward investment.”
Inverurie joins Fraserburgh, Peterhead, Portlethen and Stonehaven, where fibre broadband is already available.
