An Ellon Nail salon has had reason for double the celebrations this month after being nominated for a top Scottish award ahead of their tenth anniversary.

The Nail Extension has been short listed into the Nail Bar of the Year category within the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards 2014.

But the following day the nail bar had yet more cause for celebrations as they reached their tenth birthday.

Owner, Lesley Kinnon, 41, told the Times that the team are thrilled with the nomination.

She said: “We are absolutely delighted - all finalists were supposed to be notified on the Thursday but organisers were running late so we didn’t find out that we had made it until the day after.

“It’s been a double celebration as we enjoyed our ten year anniversary the day after finding out.

“We are really chuffed to have been short listed, especially when we are up against city-based salons such as Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee.”

The annual awards will be held on June 1 in Glasgow and recognise top hairdressing and beauty establishments, based on client votes and comments.

Lesley has worked with nails for around 20 years but she started her career in another industry miles away.

She began working as a chef of trade before working in cabin crew for almost ten years.

She added: “I did nails on the side while I was working in cabin crew. We worked out of the business park before moving to Quartz Hair and Beauty where I bought over the hairdresser.”

Lesley’s team of nail technicians, all the hairdressers and even some clients will attend the finals this weekend.
