A youth leadership workshop has been redeveloped this year with the launch of the Aberdeenshire Leaders programme. Formerly known as Grampian Leaders, the new programme of training and volunteering is aimed at 16-24-year-olds from Aberdeenshire.

Active Schools and Community Officer for Formartine, Malcolm Grant said: “We have brought in a new volunteering opportunity at the Scottish Golf Open at Murcar and Royal Aberdeen Golf Clubs to enhance the delivery of the national Club golf programme along with the established volunteer roles at Run Balmoral and the Portsoy Boat Festival.”

Candidates, from Meldrum, Ellon, Banchory, Alford, Aboyne, Mackie, Portlethen and Kemnay academies met last month where they were presented with their official t-shirts and briefed on tasks that they will complete as part of their volunteering.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Chair of Education, Learning and Leisure Committee, Councillor Isobel Davidson said: “The enthusiasm shown reflects well on Aberdeenshire and I wish them well this year when they assist with some of the most important sporting and cultural events that will take place during 2014”.
