An Ellon man who began fund-raising after his wife was left paralysed in a road accident has thanked a local school for their donation to his campaign.

Father-of-two Phil Thornley has raised around £6000 for Spinal Research UK through the London Marathon, a Perthshire cycle challenge and other contributions, including £500 from a “come as you please” dress day Auchterellon School, and nearly £160 from a coffee morning auction, organised by Lynne Lawrence.

His wife Nikki, who suffered serious spinal injuries in a motorcycle crash in the Borders last September, is continuing her rehabilitation in hospital in Glasgow.

Phil asked Auchterellon if they would hold a Denim for Devan day at the end of last term. Son Devan, 5, is a pupil.

The money raised by the school was presented by Harris Callander, 6, last Wednesday.
