ABERDEENSHIRE’S Provost has given her support to local businesses at a major conference on offshore wind technology.

Councillor Jill Webster helped to raise the profile of what the area has to offer at the Scottish Renewables Offshore Wind & Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition in Aberdeen last week.

The event, which featured around 60 exhibitors and more than 800 participants, ran at the city’s Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC).

It is the first year in which Aberdeenshire Council has taken a stand at the exhibition, in a bid to raise awareness of what the local area has to offer to the international offshore wind industry.

Council staff spoke to visitors and other exhibitors to promote the area’s three main harbours at Peterhead, Fraserburgh and Macduff and offer support to local companies involved, or seeking to become involved, in the growing offshore wind industry.

The Provost visited the conference to find out more about the opportunities available in offshore wind energy, and what the council is doing to support local and international businesses.

She said: “The offshore wind industry continues to grow and businesses in Aberdeenshire are in a great position to take advantage of the opportunities that creates.”
