Pupils ask questions
MSP Dennis Robertson and Mr Q his guide dog visited pupils at Old Rayne Primary School.
MSP for Aberdeenshire West, Dennis Robertson, who had congratulated Old Rayne Primary School on attaining a fourth Green Flag award from the Eco-Schools Scotland Programme last November, fulfilled the promise he made to teachers and pupils and visited the school last week week.
Old Rayne Primary were the first school in Aberdeenshire to be awarded four Green Flags by Eco Schools, Scotland.
Many questions were answered by the local MSP on his life and role as a member of the Scottish Parliament, but the sixth guide dog of Mr Robertson was the real centre of attention for the primary 1-3 pupils. They learned why Mr Robertson’s dog is named Mr ‘Q’ and how he came to be the first guide dog at the Scottish Parliament.
The primary 4-7 pupils wanted to know what football team Mr Robertson supports, what brought him to stand for Parliament and how much a guide dog costs to train.
Dennis Robertson MSP said of the visit, “I really enjoyed answering the many questions from the pupils of Old Rayne Primary School.
“The level of interest of the pupils on my daily life as a member of the Scottish Parliament shows how much our young people understand the world today and the quality of teaching in our rural schools.
“Mr ‘Q’ did get a lot of attention and pupils said he is named ‘Q’ because he is so cute.”
