Ellon Academy ended the term on a high last week ahead of the summer holidays.

Pupils ranging from first year right up to S6 staged The Sound of Music for three nights - all of which were sell out performances.

Principal Teacher of Creative Arts, David Birse, told the Times that the crowds thoroughly enjoyed themselves during the first show.

He said: “The audience were very receptive and clearly enjoyed their eveaning. The entire cast were fabulous - the acting, singing and dancing combined with the set, costumes and music to enthral the audience.

“Right from the opening nuns sequence to the classic tear-jerker “Climb ev’ry mountain” at the climax of the show, the principals and cast were outstanding.”

During the musical the plot explores the journey had by the Captain, Maria and the von Trapp children, all mixed in with plenty singing and humour along the way.

Times photographer, Arthur Gill attended the show and said that he had a
great time.

He said: “What a fantastic show from start to finish, I really enjoyed it. There were packed audiences for the three nights and they received standing ovation
on Wednesday.”

Mr Birse added: “A special word of thanks should go to all those who helped backstage to make the show
such a success.”
