Big hearted pupils and staff at Strathburn Primary School, Inverurie raised more than £400 for the Children’s heart Foundation after holding a Bring a Bear Day at the school.

Strathburn pupil Siana Gray wanted to hold a fundraising Bring a Bear Day at Strathburn after recovering from open heart surgery. Siana was diagnosed with Artial Septal Defect (ASD) in November 2013, and required surgery which was carried out in April this year.

The Children’s Heart Foundation, a parent led charity that supports families of children with heart conditions, provided help and support to Siana and her family during the course of her treatment. Siana’s mum Carol said, “The CHF helped her by sending her a doll made specifically to look like her to show her what her scar would look like. They also sent her books and other materials that explained what would happen in an age-appropriate manner. The support they gave us through a difficult time has been invaluable.”

Pupils brought along their favourite teddy or cuddly toy along with a £1 donation on Friday, (May 16), and managed to raise more than £400 on the day. They were assisted by Strathburn Park Playgroup, who held a sepearte Teddy Bears Picnic, and donated the proceeds. Donations can still be made at http://www.justgiving.com/Carol-Gray5
