As proud North-east newly-weds Andrew and Kirsty Stewart celebrated in style on Friday, (July 4) in front of their family and friends at the Meldrum House Hotel, surprised guests were taken aback by a unique wedding cake.

Andrew had been joking with a friend about having a buttery wedding cake on Twitter, Diane Smith, who is Sales and Marketing Manager at award winning craft bakers J G Ross Bakers, Inverurie, surprised the couple with three tiers of giant butteries, made into a unique wedding cake!

Dianne said, “I wanted to surprise Andrew and Kirsty. We have been friends with the couple for a long time and Drew has always been known for his sense of humour and quirkiness, so when he mentioned it on Twitter as a joke, I couldn’t resist taking it to the next level.

“When I arrived to set it up at Meldrum House on the Friday Morning, the excitement amongst the staff and guests of the hotel who saw it confirmed I had done the right thing. They had already arranged a beautiful wedding cake to be made by their bridesmaid’s mum, so this was an extra special treat.”

Groom Andrew said “It was the most amazing, unique wedding cake ever. It acted as breakfast and a hangover cure the next day all in one. It was a great surprise, and a big topic of conversation. Great to show our Canadian family the iconic Aberdeen buttery.”

The buttery wedding cake equated to around 54 butteries, and the bride and groom along with their family had it the next day.
