AN accident involving three cars occurred near Inverurie last week causing tailbacks on the B9170 Oldmeldrum to Inverurie Road.

All three cars careered off the road between Uryside Farm and the junction leading to Lethenty at about 8.40am last Thursday (July 5). A black Corsa, A green Fiesta and a Vauxhall Agila all sustained extensive damage.

Fiona Paing saw the accident. She said: “I was on my way to work and I saw two cars ahead smash into the road on my left and then a third car careered off the road to the right.

“I saw a couple of the passengers on their mobile phones and I saw that people had already got out to assist. There was an older man and a little boy, both looking very shocked but I think everyone was OK.

“It was very foggy and visibility was bad, so I presumed the accident had something to do with the fog.”

Police said that at the time there was no indication as to what had caused the accident, but confirmed that there had been no spillage on the road.

Two fire and rescue vehicles from Inverurie and one from Oldmeldrum were in attendance but a spokesperson from Grampian and Rescue said they only had to make the vehicles safe.

One ambulance attended and one casualty was taken to ARI, although nobody was seriously hurt.
