KEMNAY Academy pupil Tricia Kelly is set to make a lasting mark on her hometown – in the shape of a footprint.
The winner of a competition to design a logo for local environmental group Greener Kemnay, Tricia’s design will feature on headed notepaper, leaflets, social media, and on footpaths around the village.
In the pipeline for over a year now, the footpaths will by marked by signs and interpretation boards bearing Tricia’s winning design.
Greener Kemnay’s Treasurer Kath Morrison, whose sons Keith and Lewis both went to Kemnay Academy, said, “We looked at over a hundred designs sent in by kids from the Academy, and there were a lot of good entries, and it was tough job just to narrow it down to half a dozen, but we felt that Tricia’s was just right.”
Kath added: “Its good to get youngsters involved with the village and what’s happening, whether its environmental work or not. Its good for local youngsters to be taking things forward.”
The Greener Kemnay logo is going to become well-known in Aberdeenshire, this year the group has plans for further events, leaflets, and of course the footpaths in and around the village.
Commenting on her logo design, Tricia said, “I just thought of the idea of a carbon footprint – and that’s how I got to my design, with each of the toes showing something to do with the ecosystem.
“I’m delighted that I’ve won!”
