February kicked off with a bang for two lucky ladies from Kintore when their postcode won them a massive £10,000 each in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Brenda Calder and Lesley Bell, who both live in postcode AB51 0XB, found Michelle McManus, previous Pop Idol winner and ambassador for young person’s charity CHILDREN 1ST in their street, carrying cheques for them both.

Lesley, who was busy mucking out her stables when Michelle arrived with her cheque, said: “I can’t believe it, It is such a shock. £10,000 is a small fortune to me. I keep looking at the cheque in wonder. I can now afford to treat myself to the new car I’ve been looking at buying.”

Michelle then surprised Brenda, who was “flabbergasted”. Lesley’s two daughters Sara and Melanie were with her when the cheque was revealed. She said: “They will no doubt be helping me spend my win.”

Lesley is already very much looking forward to the year ahead, with two holidays already planned - a trip to Las Vegas with seven of her girlfriends, and a family holiday to Tenerife.

In addition to the two street prize winners, another 400 players living in the winning postcode sector, each won £20 per ticket.

Michelle McManus is a regular Street Prize presenter for People’s Postcode Lottery, being an ambassador for CHILDREN 1ST. The charity has received more than £1.9 Million from the players to date.

Michelle commented: “What a wonderful start to February for these lucky ladies. Not only have they both just won £10,000, they can also pat themselves on the back – players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised a massive £16.3 Million for charities in Great Britain. As an ambassador for CHILDREN 1ST, I know first hand what a difference this money makes. It is unrestricted, which means the charities can spend the funding on the projects which need it most. A huge thank you to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery.”

CHILDREN 1ST operate services across Scotland, including in the Aberdeenshire area. Mediation in Education, a service for families who are in dispute with the council about the additional learning support to be provided for a child or young person, is a service offered by CHILDREN 1ST.
