Junior Church members of Inverurie West Church were delighted to hand over a cheque for £6419.51 to Kirsty Potter, Scotland’s Fundraising Manager of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research UK, on Sunday, (June 30).
The young people from the West Church have been supporting this charity for the last two years as their fundraising project. During this time they have found new and exciting ways of raising money – including a “swishing” (swap party) event, sponsored events, a family games afternoon and making crafts to sell.
Biff Barrow, Junior Church Leader at the West Church said, “We are so proud of everyone who has helped achieve this fantastic sum. The whole congregation has joined together to support this wonderful cause, which has been really close to our hearts since one of our young members lost her battle with leukaemia. We knew that we wanted to do something to support research into leukaemia and lymphoma and so it was natural for this to choose this as our project”
Kirsty Potter of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Scotland said, “This is a great achievement. The youngsters have worked really hard to raise this money which will be used for the Trials Accreditation Programme (TAP) to support clinical trials”
Earlier this year the junior church members raised over £500 at a swap party, the first of its kind in the area, where people of all ages turned out to swap previously loved and unwanted items with members of the local community
