A group of lads from Aberdeenshire have joined an apprenticeship programme with housebuilder Barratt Homes.

The award winning Barratt Academy programme has recently welcomed a group of eight apprentices.

The youngsters will work and train with Barratt Homes in roles including electricians, joiners, bricklayers and plumbers at various developments as well as attending college.

The new recruits from Aberdeenshire include Bradley Fraser, 18, from Ellon, Miller Knowles, 18 from Foveran, Andrew Shuttleworth, 18, from Balmedie and Scott Cruickshank, 16 from Oldmeldrum and Conor Dickie, 16, from Newmachar.

Matthew Williamson, 16, from Shetland, Liam Duthie, 16, from Westhill, Ryan Morrice, aged 16 from Aberdeen have also joined the programme.

Barratt North Scotland construction manager Kevin Urquhart, 35, from Turiff, joined as an apprentice with the firm almost 20 years ago.

He said: “I joined as an apprentice joiner 19 years ago. After completing my apprenticeship I progressed into management roles, starting as a site foreman in 2001. I am now construction manager and have had the opportunity to complete qualifications in site supervision, site management and construction management. This shows that learning a trade opens many doors.”
