Marriage Course set to enhance relationships

A SEVEN week Marriage Course will begin on Thursday (February 24) at the Harlaw Centre aimed at helping couples grow closer and build a healthy, life-long relationship. Based on Christian principles, couples, whether married or co-habiting are invited to take part in the sessions which delve into issues affecting relationships, including effective communication, conflict resolution greater sexual intimacy and understanding each other’s needs.

Each session begins with an intimate meal for two followed by DVDs and couples individually work through a booklet which encourages them to enter into discussion to help them work through issues, discreetly away from the group. Afterwards couples gather back into a group for further talks and film clips. There is there is no group discussion and no requirement to share anything about your relationship with anyone else. The course is very helpful for any couple with or without a Christian faith or church background.

The Marriage Course was developed by Nicky and Sila Lee, co-authors of The Marriage Book and The Parenting Book. They have been married for over thirty years, have four children and are on the staff at Holy Trinity Brompton - the London church that started the Alpha course. They started The Marriage Preparation Course in 1985 and The Marriage Course in 1996, and the courses continue to spread with thousands of courses now running around the world.

The Marriage Course talks are presented either as live or DVD talks featuring Nicky and Sila Lee and are interspersed with filmed clips of couples talking about their experiences of marriage. Also featured are street interviews from around the world.

As a precursor to the course, the New Community Church is holding a Valentines Supper tonight (Thursday) 7pm for 7.30. Each couple will be served a two-course, candle-lit dinner with live music and an invitation to join the course.

It is still possible to obtain tickets today (Thursday) priced at £10 per couple Please ring Elaine on 07599 083465 to reserve places. There is not cost for the Marriage Course.
