Meldrum puts on Jubilee Fun

The newly formed Meldrum Square Traders have declared that Meldrum will be in the party mood on Saturday (June 2) with over £1,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.

The emphasis will be on a Treasure Hunt and clues will be posted in the shop windows of all 20 plus participating businesses. Correct entries will be put into a free raffle to be drawn at 4pm outside the Town Hall, following a fun afternoon in the square with stalls, competitions, and a barbecue.

There will be two separate competitions. Primary school children will be invited to answer a question based on items in each of the shop windows. The winner will receive sixty £1 coins, second prize is a bag of 60 50pence pieces and third will be 60 20 pence coins.

Older children and adults will answer quiz questions and the winner will be drawn from the correct entry forms. First prize is a hand-made treasure chest containing gifts to a value of over £500. The second prize is a basket worth over £250 and third is a gift from Garioch distillery.

Questions and clues will be in the windows until Saturday (June 2) and entries close at 3.30pm.

Jeff Goodhall, Chairperson of Meldrum Square Traders, said: “This is our first project and we thought it would be a good idea to link it to the Diamond Jubilee weekend. You don’t need to live in Oldmeldrum to take part – in fact we want to encourage people to come in and explore the town. An early start may be a good idea to make sure there is time to find out about some of the more tricky questions in the adult quiz!”

Everyone who buys anything from the stalls on Saturday afternoon will be given a free raffle ticket for a mystery prize. Proceeds from a separate raffle, the activities and the sale of food and drinks will go to local charities.

Everyone will have an opportunity to win a bit of Jubilee treasure.

The Fun Day will run from 1pm – 4pm. Entry to both competitions is free and forms are available from Meldrum Library and all local shops.
