After an appeal for new committee members, North East Open Studios (NEOS) is going strong.
Eight committee members stepped down at the AGM held recently, including outgoing chair, Emma Pattullo who said: “I am stepping down mainly because of the work involved. It’s had a large effect on my business and my young family. I’ve been a committee member for eight years and I’ve completed two years as chair. The most outstanding thing for me has been just being involved, making new friends and the sense of community. It has been fantastic.”
NEOS began with only 67 members and now has over 300, with well over 1,000 artists of every description.
Continuing, Emma said: “All members of NEOS are artists, and it works on every level. NEOS is an extraordinary thing to do, it is so rewarding for an artist. You get your audience - it is a fantastic way to coordinate and it’s great for visitors. They can see the effort and the thought process that is involved. They find it fascinating - they want to know how artists approach their particular art form and there is such an array of talent. There is something for everyone and it is brilliant from all aspects.
“I’m really positive about the new committee. They have the bit between their teeth and I think its going to be really good.
NEOS is in extremely good hands. I’m totally thrilled with the new committee, they will elevate NEOS to the next level.
New elected chair is Morag Mcgee, who is a ceramicist based in Ellon. She said: “I am incredibly proud to be trusted with the NEOS chair and I know the new committee has large shoes to fill.
“I hope to bring my passion, enthusiasm and experience to the role as chair, as well as a strong belief that we can take NEOS forward to even more exciting and successful years. The experience of the outgoing committee members is incredibly valuable and they have been kind enough to offer advice when needed.
“The new committee members bring a wealth of professional experience to their roles as well as their personal experience as NEOS artists. The membership is in very good hands. We will continue to make sure that NEOS highlights the huge abundance of artistic talent in this area by focusing on the artists and their diverse range of talents and by continuing to highlight our free, year round directory of artists and galleries.”
THE new NEOS committee comprises of Morag McGee (chair) Jane Ronie (coordinator), Kelly M anderson (Secretary) with ordinary members Aubin Stewart, Jennifer Watson, Nina Eggens, Vicky Duncan, Kern Jamieson, Lisa Lawson, and Robin Key. Frances Crawford, Anne Marquis, Alice Stewart and Elaine Thompson have returned for a further term.
