Cultercullen WRI held their November meeting, when President Barbara Reid introduced Margaret Keenan from Oldmeldrum.
Margaret Keenan gave a very interesting talk about her family involvement with the Special Olympics.
Margaret’s daughter Vicky was born premature and suffered from dyspraxia and during primary school Vicky started horse riding with the riding for the disabled. Vicky then took part in the Special Olympics and competed in China in 2007 and won a gold medal and 2 Bronze medals.

Meanwhile, at the Tipperty SWRI, President Mrs Isobel Elrick welcomed members and guest for the evening Mrs Helen Smillie, chairman of Ellon SWRI Group,to the Station hotel for a very special evening to mark the Diamond Jubliee of the group. After a brief history of the institute Isobel invited Mrs Reid to cut the cake, Rose has been a member of the SWRI for 49 years.
Entertainment was provided by Dr Charlie Burgess, Ron Mackie and Lynn Paterson. The talented trio took turns to entertain, with songs, sketches, jokes and Charlie had brought his pipes and had toes tapping as he played a selection of airs and marches.
The December meeting of Tipperty SWRI will be held on December 12 at Tipperty Primary School at 7.30pm. The guest speaker will be skipper Jimmy Buchan of Peterhead.
