INVERURIE’S swimming star Hannah Miley claimed two gold medals at the British Gas Swimming Championships held in the Aquatics Centre, London, and ensured that she is in pole position to return to the same venue in July as part of Team GB at the Olympic Games.

The Commonwealth gold medallist made the qualification standard for the Great British Olympic Team in both the 400m and 200m Individual Medleys.

On Saturday, (March 10), her first fantastic swim in the 400m IM not only made her British Champion, but her time of 4:32.67 was the fastest swam at the distance this year and also the second fastest British time ever recorded.

After the race Hannah said she was “really chuffed with how it went, it felt great” and praised the atmosphere of the venue, that will host this years Olympic swimming events, saying “the crowd was electric and I can’t wait to see what it will be like at the Olympic Games”. She also revealed that she was relived that the pressure was off her prior to taking part in the 200m Individual Medley on Tuesday, (March 6), where she stormed to victory in 2:10.77, again the fastest time at the distance this year and only a second off her personal best and British Record of 2:09.46

Garry Holmes, President of the Garioch Amateur Swimming Club, told the Herald, “GASC are all proud with the recent achievements of Hannah Miley in qualifying for the forthcoming Olympic Games in London at the British Swimming Trials.

“She and her father Patrick who is the Head Coach of the club have worked towards this goal over a number of years. The club are delighted that all their effort has paid off and will be fully supporting their build up to the Games.

“The return of Hannah to the pool is eagerly anticipated along with that of Patrick who has also been instrumental in the excellent performance of 16 year old Emily Jones who has been competing in a number of events.”
