A NEW head of finance has been appointed by Aberdeenshire Council.
Alan Wood has been acting head since November of last year and now takes up the role on a permanent basis.
As finance chief, he is now responsible for overseeing a budget of £548million and will lead, manage and develop the corporate finance and accountancy teams as well as the payments, revenues and benefits functions.
Mr Wood’s career started with Grampian Regional Council as a trainee accountant before he moved on to the role of accountant when Aberdeenshire Council was formed in 1996.
He became principal accountant for Corporate Services and then Planning and Environmental Services, then became corporate finance manager nine years ago.
Mr Wood said: “Aberdeenshire Council is well placed for dealing with any challenges and I hope to influence and shape the authority so it can continue to meet these and ensure that we have a strong and firm financial service.”
Council leader and appointments committee chair, Councillor Anne Robertson, said: “Alan has done an excellent job in an ‘interim’ capacity and I’m delighted that he has secured this position on a permanent basis. I know that the council’s finances will be in good hands under his leadership.”
