The SNP are celebrating after winning all six North-east seats in the general election.

It reflected the party’s astonishing results across Scotland in which they claimed 56 of the 59 constituencies.

Alex Salmond, who returned to Westminster with victory over the Lib Dems in Gordon, said the Scottish lion had “roared”.

The results for Aberdeenshire were:

Gordon (73.3% turnout, 58,223 votes cast)

Colin Clark (Scottish Conservative and Unionist): 6,807

Braden Davy (Scottish Labour Party): 3,441

Christine Jardine (Scottish Liberal Democrats): 19,030

Alex Salmond (Scottish National Party [SNP]): 27,717

Emily Santos (UK Independence Party [UKIP]): 1,166

Banff and Buchan (66.7% turnout, 45,741 votes cast)

David Evans (Scottish Liberal Democrats): 2,347

Sumon Hoque (Scottish Labour Party): 2,647

Alex Johnstone (Scottish Conservative and Unionist): 13,148

Eilidh Whiteford (Scottish National Party [SNP]): 27,487

West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine (75.2%, 55,236 votes)

Barry Black (Scottish Labour Party): 2,487

Alexander Burnett (Scottish Conservative and Unionist): 15,916

Stuart Donaldson (Scottish National Party [SNP]): 22,949

David Lansdell (UK Independence Party [UKIP]): 1,006

Richard Openshaw (Scottish Green Party): 885

Graham Reid (Independent): 141

Robert Smith (Scottish Liberal Democrats): 11,812

Meanwhile, the Nationalists’ Callum McCaig won Aberdeen South from long-serving Lib Dem Anne Begg, while Kirsty Blackman did likewise in the former Labour stronghold of Aberdeen North.
