The Scottish Conservatives have selected their candidate to contest the Aberdeenshire East constituency in next May’s Holyrood election.

Colin Clark represented the party in Gordon in this year’s General Election and came third, polling nearly 7000 votes.

I will be fighting hard, working day and night taking the fight to the SNP and getting our message across

Mr Clark, who belongs to Auchterless and attended Turriff Academy, said: “This is an election that matters. People in the North-east are fed up of being ignored by the SNP and its centralising, socialist agenda.

“Our police service is in a mess, our health service is a shambles, the curriculum for excellence is failing our children and the land reform act threatens the future of family farms.”

He added: “I, along with my colleagues across the North-east, will be fighting hard, working day and night taking the fight to the SNP and getting our message across.

“That message? That the only party with the ideas, drive and leadership, under Ruth Davidson, to stand up for the people of the North-east, to fight for their values, is the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party. I look forward to playing my part in this.”

Aberdeenshire Conservatives chairman John Duncan welcomed the selection.

He said: “It is great news to have Colin Clark back on the ticket as a Conservative Party candidate.

“In extremely tough circumstances this year, against Liberal Democrats urging tactical voting and the Alex Salmond juggernaut, he fought an incredibly positive and vocal campaign, and this was shown by the return at the ballot box in Gordon.”
