An Open Day record was broken at Ellon Fire Station on Saturday - but not one that organisers wanted.

For the first time in 34 years it rained during the event, sending visitors scurrying for shelter as they dodged heavy showers.

The water balloons were in keeping with the wet weather.

But it was still a bright outlook as £4500 was raised for the Firefighters’ Fund and local charities.

Station watch manager Ron Beedie said: “We can’t complain really after 34 years.

“It has rained in the morning and in the evening but never on the afternoon of the open day.

“We still raised £4500 and we are delighted with this and thank everyone who supported the event.”

The fire station event was again run in tandem with the police station open day a short distance away. Despite the weather,

Both attracted their fair share of visitors.
