Road gritting at Kingseat Development

Arrangements are to be put in place to ensure roads are cleared of snow and gritted on the Kingseat housing development near Newmachar.

Residents have been fustrated and found it difficult to cope with snow and ice on the road network and now, for the first time a formal agreement between the Developer and the Council will see the roads being gritted and grit boxes placed throughout the Kingseat site.

Aberdeenshire Roads Dept will do the work and the costs will be re-charged to the Developer. The road network within the area has not yet been adopted by the Council and therefore responsibility for snow clearing and gritting lies with the Developer.

Commenting, Local SNP Councillor Fergus Hood said: “This is great news for the residents of Kingseat, this arrangement has been put in place following complaints from residents relating to the lack of gritting and snow clearing on the site in previous years. As we see the first snow showers of the winter residents will be pleased to know that their streets will be gritted allowing people free movement around the Kingseat site.

“Grit bins will also be placed around the site to assist residents at times when some extra grit is required.

“In previous winters residents had great difficulty getting in and out as the snow was left to pile up and not a gritter in sight. I hope other Developers take this as a good example and make arrangements for their sites to be cleared of snow and gritted.”
