Auchedly and Ythanbank WRI President Sue Hall welcomed members and friends to their August meeting.

After business she introduced Pat Edward who gave a talk about Talking Newspaper for the Ellon district and how it got started with help from various groups, and about how it had gone digital thanks to funding.

Prizewinners: Three rock buns: Lil Emslie, Mabel Mitchell, Ellenor Gray; Three square coconut ice: Sue Hall; Flower from the garden: Mabel Mitchell, Doreen Gray, Ellenor Gray. Sue Hall was the hostess and Alicia Johnston proposed the vote of thanks.

Meanwhile at Cairnorrie WRI, the group visited Leith Hall House and Gardens for their annual outing followed by an evening meal at the Haughton Arms Hotel in Alford.

President Janice Stephen welcomed everyone and she also Sheila Joss who showed different cards she had done in thread work. She showed baby, engagement and weddings cards.

Everyone was given a card with a design punched out on it a needle and many different coloured threads so members could have a go themselves.

Members was so engrossed sewing that they found it hard to stop for a cup of tea.

After tea and raffles, Isobel gave the vote of thanks.

Competition winners were as follows: Rock cakes: Ethel Stanger, Isabella Buchan, Phyliss Hewitt; Raspberry jam: Doris Thomson, Sandra Jaffrey, Evelyn Forman; Fresh arrangement using no more than 12 roses: Janice Stephen, Isabella Buchan, Pat Mennie.
