Elected members of the Formartine Area Committee wished their retiring area manager well at a recent farewell lunch.

Members joined Keith Newton, at the Fife Arms Hotel, Turriff, where he was accompanied by his wife, Marion.

Ellon and District Councillor Rob Merson described the meal as a “very relaxed atmosphere with lots of good-humoured banter, jokes and anecdotes being shared throughout”.

The councillors took the opportunity to present Keith with a special edition bottle of single malt whisky and glasses from the Glengarioch Distillery at Oldmeldrum - the only distillery in Formartine.

Mr Merson added: “Keith’s long and distinguished career rising from a planning assistant to Head of Planning prior to his appointment as Formartine Area Manager meant that he brought a wealth of personal knowledge and experience to the table on any planning matter.

“I have always found his advice was very much valued by officers and elected members alike.

“On a personal level, Keith always looks for the best in people, and generally finds it - so he always has something positive to say.”

In his free time, Keith is planning to spending some more time with his family and is also hoping to renew his acquaintance with the game of golf.
