A LOCAL civic group is mounting an appeal for cash, after deciding that it should try to ensure that Inverurie has much improved Christmas lights in time for the town’s festive celebrations this year.
Inverurie Events has held a number of open meetings, the most recent of which agreed unanimously to proceed with an upgrade of the town’s 44 lights from standard bulbs to LED, using their own designs and frames.
Now, the Events group has entered into a contract with Aberdeen-based Scotia Animations, which has agreed to store, upgrade, transport, install and maintain the town’s lights. The cost of doing so is estimated to be in the region of £18,000.
Although fundraising to date has raised just over £3,000, Inverurie Events Chairman Hamish Vernal says he is “confident” that the group can succeed in raising the balance this year.
“We have a number of events scheduled throughout 2012”, he said in a fundraising letter. “However, they will be the subject of separate publicity nearer the time”
In addition to those planned fundraising activities, the group is now on the lookout for sponsorship to help meet the costs of the lights.
“This opportunity is open not just to the business community but also to organisations and schools”, continued Mr Vernal. “It is also open to individuals, either singly or in groups.
“For the sum of £400 the sponsor will secure a light for a period of 10 years, which is the estimated life of the light, However, sponsorship of our lights will be on a first come first served basis.
“I’d urge people to waste no time and to secure their light as quickly as possible!”
Anyone interested in sponsoring a light or in making a donation to the campaign should send a cheque made payable to ”Inverurie Events” c/o Mr Glen Reid, Inverurie Events Treasurer, 1 Ashfield, School Road, Kintore, AB51 0RZ.
