Two local butchers have been successful in the very first evaluation of gluten free meat products.

The 2016 Scottish Craft Butcher Awards gave butchers from throughout Scotland the opportunity to showcase the work they have been doing to develop gluten free meat products.

As a result of the judging at the City of Glasgow College last month, Davidson Specialist Butchers in Inverurie and A & G Collie in Kemnay were recognised for a number of their products.

A & G Collie butcher received awards for their gluten free black pudding and gluten free pork sausages, while Davidson Specialist Butchers lived up to their name winning three gold and six silver in the Gluten Free evaluation sponsored by industry suppliers, Scobie & Junor.

The Davidson products striking gold were pork sausages, Kielbasa Sausages and Bennachie Gluten Free Haggis.

Their silver success was for Bennachie Gluten Free Black Pudding, “The General” Hot Links, “Mr Rubba Rubba” Sausage, Steak & Onion Burgers, Bratwurst Sausage, and Beef Sausage.

Increasing numbers of consumers are seeking out gluten free alternatives and it is hoped that the awards will help direct those in need of these speciality products to craft butchers who have been recognised at a national level for their quality blends.

Over 100 gluten free products from all across Scotland were delivered to the City of Glasgow College where they were judged by a team of experts under the supervision of Craft Butchers, Chief Executive Douglas Scott.
