THE popular Run Garioch 2012 event, will take place in just over a week’s time on Sunday, March 18, and will see well over 1,100 runners hit the streets of Inverurie and the surrounding countryside for the Specsavers 5K, 10K and Half Marathon events.
Organisers say entries for all races have filled up quickly, and the Specsavers 10K is expected to sell out in the next few days. If you do miss out on a place, don’t let your training go to waste. Stuart Gordon, General Manager of the Garioch Sports Centre says, “Consider running the 5K instead. It’s a great distance for both beginners and experienced runners.”
Competition at the elite end of the field will be fierce again this year, with course record holder and current men’s 10K champion Robbie Simpson of Deeside Runners returning to defend his titles. Organisers also expect a good turnout from the North-East’s clubs, including Inverurie’s own Garioch Roadrunners and Garioch Gazelles.
For those who wish to cheer on friends and family, the Garioch Sports Centre, Morrisons, Kellands Rise Roundabout, Inverurie Hospital / St James’ Place and JG Ross at Highclere Business Park provide the best views.
To keep runners safe, local residents are advised that limited road closures and a one-way system around Polinar Dam will be in place this year.
“Run Garioch could not take place without the help of our generous local sponsors,” commented Stuart Gordon. This year, they include the Kellas Partnership, Craigdon Mountain Sports, William Lippe Architects, Mitchells Dairy, Strathburn Hotel, J G Ross (Bakers) Ltd, Ferguson Modular Ltd, Taggart Meil Mathers, Anderson’s, Tor Ecosse, Johnston Carmichael, MFS Plumbing, Soul, Esquire, GPH Builders Merchants, Hosie Electrical, Run4It, Fisher Offshore, Fennel Restaurant, Tesco, MTM Construction, NET Communications, Mackies of Scotland, Inverurie Physiotherapy Clinic, Solar Scotia, Balfour Beattie, Paul Douglas Pictures, Kirkwood Homes, the adult-race sponsors Specsavers and and organisers are delighted to announce that Inverurie design agency CP & CO will be joining them for the first time as sponsors of the Junior Run, and are also designers of the new Run Garioch logo.
Several local charities, as well as the Garioch Sports Trust itself, will benefit from the funds raised through Run Garioch.
Entries for all races close on Monday, 12 March; no entries will be accepted on the day.
Race-day registration starts at 9am at the Garioch Sports Centre, Burghmuir Drive.
Organisers have just launched a fantastic new Run Garioch website www.rungarioch.co.uk. From here, you will be able to register online, print out route maps, and much more.
