Home-Start Garioch, are a voluntary organisation working in the Garioch, Formartine, Westhill and Insch areas, supporting families with young children who are experiencing difficulties and finding it hard to cope.

Trained volunteers, who have parenting experience themselves, offer 2 – 3 hours a week visiting a family in their own home, offering practical and emotional support.

Due to a shortfall in funding Home-Start have had to continually try to think of ways to fundraise. On Saturday, (September 7), they held an Afternoon Tea Party in Inverurie Town Hall. It was a chance for everyone to don the posh frocks and hats. Volunteers put their baking skills to the test and provided the cakes and scones.

Entertainment was provided by the Garioch junior fiddlers, and members of the Simpson Singers and a great time was enjoyed by all, raising £1,400.

They would like to say a big thank you to sponsors: Ferguson Group, Kintore, Tor Ecosse, Inverurie, Boots the Chemist, Inverurie, L’Occitaine, Aberdeen, Deans Shortbread, Huntly and Baxters, Fochaber.

If anyone has a few hours to spare each week and would like to volunteer for Home-Start Garioch, they would love to hear from you. The next potential volunteer coffee morning is on Monday, September 23, from 10 – 11am. Do come along if you would like to find out more about volunteering. The next Preparation Course will begin in October 2013.
