The 2016 Inverurie Twilight Walk has raised £18,600 for Cancer Research UK.

Around 540 people came together to support the event that was held on Friday, May 6.

The evening kicked off with speeches from event organiser Angie Shearer and Fiona Harvey of Cancer Research UK.

Graeme Ross of event sponsor J. G Ross also presented a cheque of the company’s donation.

Lynne Naysmith got everyone geared up for the walk with a fantastic warm up and the walkers got underway at 10pm.

The Fennel generously donated small tipples of prosecco to the walkers just over half way round the route, which gave all participants a boost and a smile.

On return, volunteer Alan Shearer entertained the participants with some live music as they enjoyed refreshments and J. G Ross cupcakes.

Angie said: “Every year we are humbled by the amount of people who return to take part in the walk year after year and also greatly appreciate the efforts of those that took part in their very first Twilight Walk.

“We couldn’t have asked for better weather, better atmosphere and community spirit.

She added: “The team effort of all the participants, volunteers, Garioch Sports Centre, The Fennel, Tesco Inverurie Community Committee, our Platinum Sponsor J.G Ross who also donated cupcakes for all our participants and volunteers, as well as raising over £1,700 by selling cupcakes in the lead up to the evening, and our Bronze Sponsor Huntly Vehicle Care Centre, is incredible.

“Together, we will bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”
