Two Ythan CC riders made the journey north to the Highlands for the famous Strathpuffer 24 Mountain Bike race last weekend, writes Malcolm Grant

Andy Scouller and Chris Main were both riding in separate teams in the pairs events alongside hundereds of other riders, including motorcycle champion and television personality Guy Martin.

The Strathpuffer 24 is regarded as one of the toughest mountain bike endurance races in the UK, especially as from its 24-hour duration nearly 18 hours is ridden in complete darkness.

This year’s race saw unseasonably mild weather which turned the course into a mudbath instead of the snow and ice that normally greets those brave enough to take on such a challenge.

Scouller’s team finished in 12th place completing 24 laps in 24hrs 22mins 37 seconds with Main’s team completing 24 laps in 24 hours 38 minutes 57 seconds.
