HUNDREDS of visitors packed up their kit bags with memories to attend Remembrance events at libraries across Formartine to mark 90 years since the end of the World War One.
Libraries in Meldrum, Ellon and Turriff held events from researching the family trees of war heroes to hearing readings from school pupils.
The libraries also encouraged members of the community to bring in memorabilia from the war for physical d
isplays as well as assisting people to upload virtual memories to the BBC's Wall of Remembrance.
Additionally, many of the libraries made use of the services of local studies librarian, David Catto.
David helped many people research their family history and explained how extensive family history resources could be accessed at Local Studies Headquarters in Meldrum.
Staff from Meldrum library said that people came from far and wide to share family stories and were delighted that their fathers' and grandfathers' stories were on display.
Helen Dewar, cultural services team leader said: "Library staff were asked if they could find the war records for one man's father in the records on ancestry and were successful.
"A small crowd gathered to look at what was found. He was delighted and went away with a big smile on his face, knowing his father had won three medals.
"Some people returned to the library throughout the week to do their own research and got so hooked on the idea that they started on their own research at home and were amazed at what they were able to discover."
At Turriff Library, Remembrance events attracted new visitors. Thirty people outwith the library's 'normal borrowers' visited the library on Saturday, November 8 to look at their display.
The Primary 7 Homework Club (12 members) visited the local war memorial in Turriff and noted down some soldiers names killed in action in the First World War.
The youngsters then researched them on the The Commonwealth War Graves Commission website and printed out details of the local men, where they died, their regiment and a picture of where they were buried.
In Ellon library, more than 60 people attended the Remembrance Event on Saturday, November 8 and five tables were taken up with displays of medals and soldiers' records, visitors also swapped memorabilia with each other.
Douglas Watson from the Ellon historical society visited the library to assist David Catto in helping people research their family history and visitors left with information on various websites to help them with their research.
Helen said: "The Remembrance events at Formartine libraries have encouraged many local people to realise the resources that exist within their local library for researching their family tree and that library staff have the skill and the knowledge to offer support."
The material scanned in at local branch libraries is now available on the BBC website www.bbc.co.uk/remembrance/wall.
