Lewis United 0, Formartine United 2
WITH a stiff wind at their backs, Lewis United got the GA Engineering Inter Regional Cup game underway.

The first chance fell to Lewis after 13 minutes. A long throw in was controlled by R. Smith and he fired in a shot which hit the side net.
Formartine should have taken the lead in the 16th minute. Burrows sent a lovely ball into the area which was met by Young, but his shot was cleared off the line for a corner. The visitors were now beginning to dominate and a free kick was held by Knox. A long ball out of defence fell to Robison but his hurried shot went over the bar.

Formartine took the lead in the 21st minute with a superb individual goal. Beattie controlled the ball at the edge of the box, rounded a defender and accurately slotted his shot past Knox.

Formartine almost gifted the home side in the 24th minute. A mix-up between Jeffrey and Horne allowed R. Smith a shot which went just wide. In the 31st minute a Thomson free kick was held by Horne. Beattie sent Burrows through on the right, his cross was scrambled away for a corner. In the 40th minute a Beattie cross was millimetres over Maitland's head.

Formartine came close to extending their lead in the 50th minute. Haddaway beat the offside trap, took the ball round Knox but went too wide and the defence recovered to put the ball behind for a corner.

The second was only delayed by a couple of minutes as Forsyth made a perfectly timed run to take the ball behind Lewis's defence, he passed to the unmarked Beattie who accepted the gift and slotted into an empty net after 57 minutes.

Beattie sent in an inviting cross with 70 minutes on the clock but the ball was headed away for a corner. Good work from Lawson on the left ended with his cross being headed over by Brown.

With ten minutes left Lewis were reduced to ten men when Thomson was sent from the field for what appeared to be a comment to the assistant referee. With time running out Rae set up Beattie but with a hat-trick opportunity begging he dragged his shot wide.

Formartine United: Horne, Burrows, Brown, Lawson, Graffin, Jeffrey, B. Maitland, Young, Haddaway, Beattie, Forsyth. Subs: Rae, Sim, Cheyne, Taylor, Duguid.
