MEMBERS of Garioch Gymnastics Club took part in the Scottish Championships in Perth last weekend.
The Espoir, Junior and Senior Scottish Championships is the highest level of competition in Scotland. The top girls in the country compete at this along with several gymnasts who train in England but have Scottish heritage. Some of these gymnasts hav
e represented Scotland at International events like the Commonwealth Games.

Two gymnasts from Garioch Gymnastics Club in Inverurie took part in the event. Jessie Smith - aged 11 from Collieston - took part in this event for the first time. One of the younger gymnasts in the Espoir Age Group, she put in a good quality performance to finish 11th. She also improved her personal best score by 5.517 – a massive jump in only eight months since she last competed.

Oldmeldrum's Emma-Louise Donald (17) took part in the Senior event and also put in a personal best performance, improving on her previous best score by 3.61.

This, combined with an overall bronze medal and qualifying for all four apparatus finals, made the Saturday a very successful day for Emma-Louise.

On the Sunday Emma-Louise achieved another bronze for vault and silver medals on beam, bars and floor.
