WEST Garioch advanced to the second round of the Murray Cup with a demolition job of Newmachar Colts.
Two goals in the first half from striker Josh Boyle and one from Bryce Davidson gave the visitors a healthy lead at half-time and there was no l
et-up in the second half with further goals from Callum McRitchie, Ryan MacIntosh, Craig Petrie and Davidson completing his double.
The game got under way in blustery conditions on a very heavy pitch but Garioch were soon into their stride with an effort from McRitchie going flying past the post and Boyle testing the keeper.
It was Boyle who scored the opener after 14 minutes when Andi Bremner sent over a cross and the big striker, lurking at the far post, finished in fine style.
Three minutes later it was 2-0 and McRitchie was the provider this time, knocking the ball into the box with Bryce Davidson adding the finishing touch.
Garioch keeper Stephen Boddie was then called into action when he had come off his line sharply to gather the ball bravely at a Newmachar forward's feet.
Sean Bremner was unlucky to see the ball fly over the crossbar in 27 minutes from a delivery on the right by brother Andi.
Garioch went 3-0 up in 30 minutes when Boyle again found space in the box and side-footed the ball home with the Newmachar players claiming in vain for offside.
The home side's first real attempt on goal came two minutes later but the effort was well held by Boddie. Just before the break a great run by Garioch's livewire midfielder Ross Dingwall ended with the ball being safely gathered by the keeper.
Newmachar had a chance to reduce the leeway after just three minutes of the second half when a player worked his way clear wide on the right but his diagonal effort went narrowly wide. In 54 minutes a header from left-back Ryan MacIntosh flew past the post after a good cross from Boyle.
A minute later it was 4-0 when a looping shot from Callum McRitchie beat the goalkeeper and bounced into the net. A free-kick for Garioch in 62 minutes saw Boyle hit the ball low and hard which the goalkeeper could only parry and MacIntosh was on hand to fire the ball home for his first goal of the season and Garioch's fifth of the match.
A Dingwall piledriver from 20 yards in 70 minutes were narrowly wide but two minutes later it was six of the best from Garioch when Davidson slotted home his second goal after being fed by Andi Bremner.
Garioch substitute Craig Roberts went close with ten minutes remaining when he slipped the ball just past the post.
Another substitute, Craig Petrie, completed the scoring in 82 minutes when he met a cross in from the left by MacIntosh first time and the ball flew into the net.
Although this was a convincing win and a one-sided affair Garioch coach Sandy Bremner was not all that happy with the performance of his team.
He said: "It was not a great game to watch but we did the job. I thought the lads might have put in a better performance than they did."
