Inverurie Locos go into their festive double header with Formartine United on a real high after , hitting Rothes for seven on Saturday.

The performance really fired up the large Hospitality contingent into a loud chorus of Jingle Bells and a stamping of the feet, celebrating all the goals coming from the in-form strikers.

It started off on a positive note, Neil Gauld advancing towards goal, creating space for himself but seeing his effort deflect over for a corner.

Dean Donaldson was to follow his lead, controlling a long Ryan Broadhurst pass, cutting in from the bye line and also earning a flag kick.

From the resulting set piece, Neil McLean’s deep corner found Martin BAVIDGE on the edge of the box. The former Peterhead man’s first volley was blocked, but he instinctively fired the rebound low into the net.

Bavidge almost added a second in 32 minutes, picking up a ball from Gordon Forsyth. and testing Ricky Horne at his right post.

Six minutes later, Donaldson cut inside from the right flank and into the box, ripping the Rothes defence apart.

His close range attempt was blocked by Horne falling to a fortunate Neil GAULD, who could do nothing other than force the ball over the line.

With Ross Gibb receiving treatment on the sidelines for a cut on his head, following a clash with Kieran Adams, the Speysiders were down to ten men right on half time but fathomed a chance, their best of the game.

Joao Rodrigues sent Gary Gallagher through, but with Andy Reid coming off his line, Gallagher was only able to fire a low effort which was smothered by Reid.

Nine minutes after the restart, Martin BAVIDGE killed the game off. A long Reid clearance saw Bavidge pick up the ball, compose himself and curl the ball round a totally wrongfooted goalkeeper It could’ve been a hat-trick goal for Bavidge just seconds after his goal, John Maitland on the wing swinging the ball in, his header bringing out an acrobatic save out of Horne.

With David Ross, Mark Souter and Jordan Leyden coming on, there was no let up for the visiting team. In 71 minutes, Souter provided the pass, David ROSS immediately gunning for goal and again leaving Horne flatfooted.

Neil GAULD capitalised on being left open on the left side of the box, placing his shot carefully inside Horne’s post from close range, with the aid of a slight deflection Neil GAULD completed his hat trick by firing through a ruck of bodies.

Then right on the final whistle, Jordan Leyden burst through on goal and saw his fierce shot parried away by Horne for a corner.

Taking what would be the final kick of the game, Neil GAULD gave the ball fierce inswing into the centre of the goal mouth with enough curve, to bring the ball down under the cross bar. Failing to read the path of the cross, Ricky Horne was unable to get a strong hand on the ball and ended up palming it into the roof of the net. But the ball was already over the line.
