HONOURS were even after Monymusk and Newburgh Thistle drew 1-1 in this Division 3 encounter played in swirling mist in the coastal village.
An early James Stewart strike for the visitors gave them the upper hand in the first half but the home team battled back in the second period to earn a share of the spoils. Musk had to play the closing minutes of the game with just 10 men after top scorer Andy Cruden got his marching orders after being shown a second yellow card.
Monymusk were ahead after just four minutes when a Liam Barron corner saw the ball go through the pack to STEWART on the left and the winger’s drive flew into the net off a Newburgh player.
Musk were keen to capitalise on this great start and five minutes later Stewart sent a great cross in which the Newburgh keeper could only palm out but there were no takers for the visitors.
Musk had a great chance to make it 2-0 with seven minutes of the first half remaining when Cruden laid the ball off the Harkness but the veteran frontman was unlucky to see his shot cannon off the post.
Musk continue to push forward and finished the first 45 minutes strongly with Barron going close from a great Jamie Mackie feed.
The home side came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half with Fyffe just getting a touch to guide the ball wide for the a corner. Then a mistake by defender Colin Lyon let a Newburgh player in on goal but Fyffe produced a great save.
The game then got a bit tousy with Ryan Sangster and a Newburgh player booked after a confrontation and Cruden also getting a yellow for dissent.
Thistle stung Musk with the equaliser when Fyffe saved an initial attempt but a Newburgh player followed up to knock the ball home.
There was drama with three minutes to go when Cruden was shown a red card after he picked up a second yellow for comments directed at the referee.
In the end a draw was probably a fair result between two evenly-matched sides battling for a top six spot in the league. Musk will be rueing missed chances in the first half which could have sealed three points instead of just one.
