THE gulf of three leagues was not evident for three-quarters of the Soccer World North of Scotland Cup third round game between Monymusk and Echt played at Deer Park.
It was only in the last quarter of the game that Premier Division side Echt showed their strength and quality scoring four goals against a tiring Division Three Musk side on a pitch which by then had turned into a quagmire.
Echt had most of the early possession but were unable to apply the finishing touch and it was the home side who took a shock lead in 25 minutes when, after an Andy Robertson free kick, the ball broke to Ryan SANGSTER and he made no mistake with a low drive past the helpless Echt keeper.
The lead was to be shortlived, however, and the visitors were back on level terms just three minutes later with a great through ball that split the Musk defence and gave an Echt player an easy chance to score.
Echt came out all guns blazing in the second half after some harsh words, no doubt, from their manager during the break. Fyffe brought off a great save to deny an Echt forward, and on seven minutes an Echt player weaved in from the left and saw his effort cannon off the post.
Musk were then hit with a sucker punch with 16 minutes remaining when Echt took the lead with a header from a corner. This was to be the catalyst for the Premier Division team to take the upper hand and a header again from another corner with seven minutes remaining gave Echt a 3-1 lead.
This goal knocked the stuffing out of the home side and in the closing minutes Echt added another two goals although the final scoreline was not a true reflection of how the game had gone.
Monymusk are now out of all the cup competitions and can concentrate solely on their quest for promotion to Division Two.
