One of the few matches to survive anywhere in the north east on Saturday was Colony Park U16 Colts against Kemnay where there was a late pitch inspection and improving weather which allowed the match to go ahead.
The Colts started at a high tempo and took the game to their opponents looking for an early goal to settle themselves. That early goal never came but Colony were certainly in charge as they created a number of chances.
However it wasn’t until the 20th minute that Jamie MAIR fired the opener with a cross-come-shot that swerved and sailed into the top corner.
Colony buoyed by the goal continued to play good football and deservedly increased their lead from the penalty spot ten minutes later after after Ross Wilson was brought down. Ryan RAE calmly placed the spot kick low into the corner of the net. Kemnay started the second half in determined mood and took the game to the home side from the off. They got their just rewards when a speculative long range effort from David CLARK sailed in high over the keeper to make the score 2-1.
Kemnay continued to press and a good save by keeper Aiden Peck denied them an equaliser before Colony seemed to find an extra gear.
Ryan RAE made the game safe when he gathered a through ball and hit an excellent strike from an acute angle beating the keeper at the near post. Numerous chances were squandered thereafter as Colony dominated. The final goal was scored by Ryan RAE, who grabbed a hat-trick, when a poor kick out from the keeper landed at his feet and he ran through unchallenged to finish the game at 4- 1
