On a wet afternoon in Inverurie, Colony Park maintained their recent winning form when they beat Sunnybank 1-0 in a close fought match.
Both sides started slowly as they adjusted to the difficult playing conditions with Colony playing into a strong wind against the driving rain.
Sunnybank initially took the initiative forcing a number of early corners which the Colony defence dealt with clearing well on each occasion. Colony’s first chance came in 15 minutes when Liam Roddie fired an excellent low cross ball which just eluded Strachan as he stretched a leg for it, any touch would probably have seen the opening goal.
With conditions underfoot worsening both teams continued to push forward but most moves broke down around the 18 yard area. Strachan and Bonarius had attempts from distance with the former going closest but the Sunnybank keeper saved his shot.
Neither side had many opportunities to score up to the end of the half although Sunnybank won a corner just on the break but the Colony defence were able to clear the kick and the teams went in level and goalless at half time.
At the start of the second half the Sunnybank Strachan broke free on the left wing but his cross was well cut out by the Sunnybank keeper. The away side then came back with a corner from which they had a chance to score but the shot was passed the post.
After five minutes of the second half Adam Maitland, continued his recovery from injury replacing Liam Roddie. In 58 minutes following a corner to Colony Park, Keir shot wide and four minutes later a Bonarius free kick was just wide of the post while a Strachan shot brought out a great save from the visiting keeper. However the deadlock was broken in the 63 minute when Jack STRACHAN’S skilful first touch placed him a position to round the keeper and put the ball into the net giving Colony Park the lead.
With just over 15 minutes remaining the Inverurie side almost added to their lead when a cross from Crosbie was headed against the bar by Bonarius. This was followed by a shot just over the bar from Strachan.
In the closing stages there were few chances for either team and Colony Park ran out winners by a one goal margin.
This was another good win for Colony Park against Sunnybank for whom Milne was outstanding in defence. Colony remain top of the PMAC Division 1 East but their closest rivals have games in hand.
