Colony Park Juniors completed their final league match of the season drawing 2-2 in a wind affected game against local rivals Newmachar United.

On-loan Locos youngster Keir had an early opportunity from a corner but his shot rebounded to the Newmachar keeper.

In 19 minutes Adam Maitland picked up the ball in midfield and played a defence splitting pass to Jack STRACHAN who ran through on goal placing the ball beyond the United keeper to give Colony Park the lead.

In 27 minutes Newmachar had a chance to equalise but Keith’s shot was just wide of the post. Colony Park had the ball in the net on 33 minutes when Bonarius headed home a Bobby Maitland cross. However the referee deemed the goal offside. Four minutes later Colony did increase their lead when Adam MAITLAND began and ended a good move which saw him strike a 20 yard shot into the net. Strachan almost added a third just before the interval but his shot went over the bar leaving Colony Park with a two goal lead at half time.

In the second half Newmachar were playing with the wind which seemed to have strengthened as the match progressed. Four minutes into the half United pulled a goal back when Andy GRAHAM placed the ball into the net following a Newmachar corner.

The match was now more even in terms of play and Newmachar had several opportunities to score.

In 66 minutes Strachan was through on goal but the United keeper made a great save turning the ball for a corner which the home defence cleared.

Using the wind to their advantage Newmachar pressed forward for an equaliser. In 77 minutes they forced what turned out to be a five corners in a row but the Colony defence managed to hold firm. In 82 minutes following a scramble in the Colony Park goalmouth Peden struck the ball against Peter DOUGLAS and the ball rebounded into the net with Newmachar equalising through an own goal.

With Newmachar on top for the final minutes Colony did well not to concede a further goal leaving the teams even at the end of the match.

A draw was a fair result and it left Colony Park one point in the lead at the top of the PMAC Group Division 1 East. However Bridge of Don Thistle and Cruden Bay have sufficient games in hand to pass Colony Park in the race for the league title.
