COLONY Park Juniors continued their winning run in the league with a hard fought 4-3 win over Glentanar in the PMAC Group Div 1 East.

With Steven Park and Adam Morrison making their league debuts for Colony Park, Colony were on the back foot in the early exchanges. Glentanar were the team who looked more likely to score although Graffan had the ball in the net after 15 minutes but was adjudged offside.

Glentanar opened the scoring in 19 minutes when a long ball eluded the Colony defence and the Glentanar striker picked up the ball rounding Sim and putting his team ahead.

With almost half an hour gone Glentanar had a good chance to increase their lead but a brilliant save by Sim kept Glentanar’s lead at one goal. Another save by Sim and a goal line clearance by Park kept Colony in the game.

Having survived those scares the Inverurie side completely changed the game scoring three goals in under five minutes .On the 39 minute mark Bobby Maitland played a long ball picking out Calvin RODDIE who turned and shot well in to the net to make the sides level. Two minutes later Adam Maitland slipped an excellent pass to Jack STRACHAN who struck the ball into the corner of the net giving Colony Park the lead. One minute later Colony Park further increased their lead to 3-1 when STRACHAN tapped in following an error by the Glentanar keeper.

After the interval, Colony Park were on the offensive from the start, with Strachan going close when his goal bound shot was deflected over the bar for a corner. In 52 minutes Roddie had the ball in the net but he was given offside, Strachan and Graffan also had the ball in the net but again were ruled offside.

On the hour Glentanar were awarded a penalty. Sim brought off a brilliant save from the spot kick diving full length to his right to turn the ball round for a corner.

In 70 minutes Colony Park increased their lead when STRACHAN broke with the ball and calmly placed his shot passed the Glentanar keeper to give him a hat-trick and put Colony 4-1 up. They say that you are at your most vulnerable just after you score and as if to prove the point the Colony defence was wide open a minute later and Glentanar took full advantage to make the score 4-2. Glentanar were now back in the game and they were awarded their second penalty on 79 minutes. This time they made no mistake and pulled back another goal.

The match went to five minutes of added time, and Colony Park almost added another goal when a Bonarius strike from 25 yards hit the upright.

Colony Park held on for a good win coming good after a shaky start. This win means that Colony Park continue to top the table but their nearest rivals Bridge of Don Thistle are five points behind with four games in hand.
